PhD in Fundamental and Applied Physics

Higgs-like resonance searches with ATLAS. Supervisors: Mariagrazia Alviggi and Francesco Conventi.
Work
From physics research to daily operations, I take ownership of the systems, decisions and coordination that allow people to do their work.
At INAIT, I bring together infrastructure engineering, DevOps, AI and robotics enablement, and the coordination needed to keep a technology company working. I joined in December 2021 as Senior DevOps Engineer & Corporate Infrastructure Manager and became Lead IT Infrastructure in August 2023. I am responsible for cloud and local infrastructure, automation, developer platforms and everyday IT operations, working closely with scientists, programmers and mathematicians.
My work also covers operational governance, budgets, suppliers, software licences, procurement, contracts and office infrastructure. I translate a technical need into requirements, organise the resources and decisions around it, and follow it through implementation and support. The contribution is practical: researchers can use demanding computing environments, developers can build and deliver software, and colleagues have working tools and clear support. My experience in particle physics and ATLAS systems administration helps me connect the purpose of the work with what it takes to make it possible.
The work behind the rolesProfile
Università di Napoli Federico II · Napoli, Italia
Higgs-like resonance searches with ATLAS. Supervisors: Mariagrazia Alviggi and Francesco Conventi.
Universidad de Los Andes · Mérida, Venezuela
Thesis on electromagnetic momentum in modern physics. Supervisor: Gianfranco Spavieri.
Professional experience
I have held research appointments and operational responsibilities at the same time. These roles show both their individual scope and the institutions that formed one shared working context.
INAIT SA · Switzerland
Lead the infrastructure and operational work that help a technology company research, build and deliver.
LAPP · CNRS · Annecy
Scientific computing and open research at the Laboratoire d’Annecy de Physique des Particules.
ATLAS / CERN · Università di Udine · ICTP · INFN
Research appointments and institute partnerships combined with systems responsibility for the ATLAS experiment.
Università di Napoli Federico II · INFN · ATLAS / CERN
Doctoral research and subsequent work connected Higgs analyses with software and scientific computing.
LPNHE · Paris
Ten-month fellowship in the High Energy Physics Latin American–European Network, funded through the European Union’s ALFA programme. I researched ATLAS reconstruction algorithms at LPNHE in Paris.
Universidad de Los Andes · Mérida
Three overlapping teaching appointments across Engineering, Science and Humanities.
Work with me
I bring more than twenty years of work in physics, computing and technical education. My strength is connecting scientific depth with operational responsibility: understand the problem, build what is needed, and give people the means to use it.
Designing and running the computing that other people depend on: cloud and on-premise systems, identity and access, automation, reproducible environments, cost control and the policies around them. From a trigger farm at CERN to a start-up’s whole IT estate and a three-machine laboratory in Mérida.

Turning a dataset, an archive or a body of expertise into something people can actually use: releases, documentation, licences, tools and the onboarding around them. Open science at CERN, health information on Wikipedia, medical heritage in Lausanne.

Courses, schools and hands-on material that leave participants with working tools of their own: from the CERN School of Computing to a talk whose exercises run inside the participants’ repositories, and a virtual centre that taught physics across an ocean. More than ten CERN summer students and a handful of thesis students have passed through my supervision.

A question, a review or a second opinion on an architecture, a data release or a programme. Short, written, with the reasoning shown.
From a brief to a plan: objectives, roles, calendar, platforms, budget lines and how the result will be evaluated and published.
A prototype, an infrastructure or a publication, documented so that your team can own and maintain it. I provide reproducible workflows, a clear handover and documentation adapted to the team’s working language.
Schools, workshops and courses, in person or online, with exercises people can keep. I work in Spanish, English, French and Italian; we agree the teaching language and materials for each group.
Institutions I have worked with or for: LPNHE (HELEN Fellow), CERN and the ATLAS Collaboration, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, INFN and the University of Udine, LAPP (CNRS), Università di Napoli Federico II, Universidad de Los Andes, Creative Commons, Wikimedia CH, RedCLARA and LA-CoNGA Physics, ACFIMAN, INAIT.
